Contents insurance covers the cost of replacing or fixing your belongings after damage or theft. Items are covered within your home and, can sometimes be covered while you're away from the home too.

What does contents insurance cover?

umbrl offers contents cover up to £100,000 with the option to add on extra cover for emergencies or accidental damage. Our policies are designed to cover risks like fire, storm, theft and more. For full details on what we cover and any exclusions, check out our policy wording here.

Who needs contents insurance?

Not everyone will need contents insurance, but it’s worth considering the value of your belongings and your personal situation to decide if it'd be beneficial for you.

  • If you own valuables such as jewellery or electronics it may give you peace of mind these are protected if they're stolen or damaged

  • You can specify if you want certain items covered with your policy when they're outside of your home

  • If you rent your home, your landlord's buildings insurance won't cover your personal belongings

How much cover do I need?

It's important to insure your contents for the full value they're worth to avoid being underinsured. With the right amount of cover, you'll have enough money to replace all your belongings if you lost everything.

Underinsurance means the amount your insured for is less than the full cost of loss or damage which can leave you out of pocket in the event you need to make a claim

Here are five steps to help you to work out the total value of your contents:

  1. Make a list of each room's contents

  2. Calculate the value of individual items

  3. Note down high-value items

  4. Get valuations for high-risk items

  5. Add everything up
